Fumble return spells doom for EC JC Warriors at Perkinston 7-0

Unable to cash in severalscoringop- portunities including two late fourth quarter attempts, East Central Junior College fell 7-0 to defending state champion Gulf Coast Junior College Saturday night in a South Division contest played on the Perkinston campus. ECJC will host East Mississippi, 1-0-1, this Saturday in a 7:30 p.m. non-division match-up. Gulf Coast, now 1-0 in division play and 1-1 overall, scored midway in the first quarter when linebacker Calvin Cuthbert picked off East Central fullback Marvin Pearson's mid-air fumble and raced 46 yards to paydirt. Adethsack Chanthavane added the PAT and Gulf Coast led 7-0. The winning score came on a third and inches play for East Central, now 0-1 in the division and 1-1 overall, which had mounted a drive after mak- ing a couple of first downs. Gulf Coast threatened to add to its lead midway in the second period but the drive was stymied when ECJC defensive tackle Mickey McMillan of Lake recovered Bulldog quarterback ShaneBryant's fumble in the endzone.
