The squad is mostly in- cxpcrienced, with Anderson and Terry IHo\ki115, a 5'9" point-guard from Philadelphia, being the only sophomores ~bitha lot o f plaving time.
Enst Central will host Jones Thurduy, January 8; entertain Meridian Saturday, January 10; and travel to Co-Lin Mon- day, January 12. Jones and Co-Lin games are South Division contests. The Lady Warriors, under Coach Sammy Pace, are 4-5 overall and 2-2 in division play. Freshman center Melli\sa Simmerson of Louisville is the leading scorer with 20 points per game. She is also the top rebounder with 10 per contest. Coach Pace said injuries have plagued the squad all season. He said he lost the services of three sophomores, forward Ruby Carter of Edinburg and guard Angie Smith of Leake Academy, who were hurt last season, and forward Tracy Donald of Neshoba Central who was in- jured over the holidays in a freak acci- dent. Coach Pace said Donald suffered torn ligaments when her leg got caught between two cars in a parking lot nli3hap. Coach Pace said the remainder of the season looks promising, as the freshman players are working hard and the sophomores are beginning to show leadership. Coach Larry Gressett's Warriors are 2-9 overall and 1-3 in division action.
Coach Gr.essett said he hopes to have t'reshrnan .loe .lanes, a 6'4" forward froin Nc.bhoba Central back into the lineup. .lone\ had knee surgery earlier to repair cartilage damage. Also expected back into action will be freshman Joe McGonan, a 6'3" forward from Oxon Hill, Maryland. McGowan broke a t'inger earlier in the season but is ex- pected to return to the squad. Two area players Coach Gressett said \hould we plenty of action are Greg Wells, :i 6'3" sophomore and Glen Robinson, a 6'1" guard, both frnrn Edinburg. Coach G r ew t t said the Warrtor squad features eight freshmen which leaves the team mostly inexperienced. He said the Warriors play an aggressive man-to-man defense but sometimes play too aggressive, as the squad has been in foul trouble most of the season. Gresselt added the first half of the season has becn more of a learning ex- perience for the players and he, like Coach Pace, looks to an improved se- cond half season.
