East Central to install new
Dr. Eddie Malvin Smith will officially De ~ n - ~ c t e d as the sixth president of East Central Junior dlege at an inaugural ceremony on Wednesday, ?.Lpril 30 at 2 p.m. in Huff Auditorium. :Dr. Smith has served in the presidency of the ttLecatur-based school since he succeeded Dr. harles Wright last July. He came to East Central om Copiah-Lincoln Junior College where he had :en an administrator for the thirteen years. The st five years of his tenure was spent as Dean of istruction. A graduate of Noxapater High School, he receiv- 1 his associate degree from East Central, his achelor of Science and Master of Education es from Mississippi State and the Doctor of uu~ation degree from the University of Southern lississippi. The Winston County native is married to the xmer Charlotte Flowers of Natchez. They have NO children, Kelli, a senior at Mississippi State lniversity, and Wendy, a freshman at ECJC. The afternoon inauguration will include the pro- tssional, recognition of special guests, salutations y several platform speakers, as well as the presen- ition of the insignia and the investiture of the resident. The College mace, which will be carried at the ead of the procession by the grand marshall, is iast Central's first. Through the years, the mace has gained a ceremonial character and has become a symbol to denote authority. East Central Junior College's first medallion will le presented to Dr. Eddie Smith as part of the In- ugural Ceremony: The medallion combines the of- icial seal of the College with the recently adopted logan and logo. It will be worn by Dr. Smith in uture ceremonial occasions as a sign of the residential office.
