After heart surgery, and on the advice of the doctor, I am resigning my position, to be effective June 30, 1986," Hollingsworth said. "I have been through five elections, without having an opponent, and for this I am very grateful to the people. "I think the people of Scott County can be very proud of their schools. We have a fine group of teachers and ad- ministrators. Some of the things that I'm thankful for is that we've be&. able to keep our buildings in good repair, add classrooms each year, the Vo-Tech Center that we operate in C,. lege since 1967. IIe is a past president of the Miss: Association of School Superintendents, the Forest Kiwanis Club and the Scott County Chapter of the USM Alumni Association. He has also served as chairman of the Scott County Chapter of the American Cancer Society and Honorary Chapter Farmer of the Mor- ton Future Farmers of America. Scott County Superintendent of Education Albert F. Hollingsworth this week announced his resignation from office effective June 30. Holl- ingsworth, a 31-year veteran in public school education, has held the post since his dection Feb. 1, 1967. A special election to fill his unex- pired term will be held in November, Hollingsworth said. The county school board will appoint a n interim superintendent to serve until that election. The board is expected to make the decision within the month. Hollingsworth said that the decision to retire was made "reluctantly", but that doctors had advised the move following an open-heart surgical pro- cedure performed last month. He continued his education at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earn- ed the Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1948, and the Master of Arts degree in School Administration in 1950. During World War 11, Hollingworth served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines from 1943through 1946. He began his teaching career a t 1,exle High School in Walthall County in 1946, where he served as principal and coach. In 1951,he entered private business. Their interest was always what was best for the students. I would also like to thank the Scott County Board of Supervisors, who have cooperated with the schools and always helped in any way that they could. "Even though I'm retiring, my heart will always be with the schools and students, and I will continue to work for their progress," he said. A reception honoring Hollingsworth will be held Thursday, June 26 from 2-4 p.m. in the Scott County Cour- thouse. The public is invited to attend.
