M r . Mack' I Weerns retires after For his 41 years of service as a member of the East Cen- 31 Junior College Board of Trustees, Mack Weems of r es t was honored during ceremonies held March 3 on the ECJC campus. Weems was presented a plaque of appreciation by Henry B. Hudspeth, Board Chairman, of Louisville, and Dr. Eddie M. Smith, ECJC President, during a luncheon held prior to the Board's regular monthly meeting. Also in tendance with Weems was his wife, Mrs. Bertha eems. Weems has served continously on the Board since ~nuary 1, 1940 except for a period of six years, 1956-62. He has served as principal and/or taught in the Scott County schools of Clifton, Harperville, Kalem, Morton, nigh Hill, Sebastopol, and Lake. His first teaching job was Lake, where he taught math and coached. Weems was elected Scott County Superintendent of iucation in 1939 and served until 1946. 41 years of service I Weems attended High Hill public school, Mississip State College, and the University of Southern miss is sip^ (Actually,he never graduated from high school or Missi sippi State-he received a certificate in aptitude test from Mississippi State Teachers College, the forerunner of USM). Weems and the former Bertha Wilkins were married 4 March 28, 1928. They have three children: Dr. Lam, Weems, chief of urology a t University Medical Center, D Martha Cheney, Oxford, Mississippi Elementary Schoui Principal, and Mrs. Wanda Veagler of Burlington, North Carolina who owns a design shop. A foster son, Dr. Dem sey Amacker who lived in Natchez, is deceased. D Weems, Dr. Cheney, and Dr. Amacker attended East Ce tral Junior College.
