At ECJC she was chosen to be a member of Centrallettes, Warrior Corp, Fashion Squad, Phi Theta Kappa, Mu Alpha Theta. She received the Kappa Kappa Iota Award, Elementary Education Alumni Award, ECJC Players Award, and Beauty, Most l3eautiful. She was selected for Who's Who Among American Junior Colleges, Secretary of Mu Alpha Theta, Vice President of Student Education Association. She has had special training in
dance for nine years, piano three years and voice three years. Melesia's talent at the Miss Mississippi Pageant will be a vocal presentation to the pop song "My Guy." The primary purpose of the pageant is to provide scholarships to young ladies. This year scholarships awarded to young ladies from across the State of Mississippi will be in excess of $27 ,000.00, with an opportunity for the winner to compete in the Miss America Pageant where the total scholarships will exceed $2,500,000.00 in 1984 alone. The Mississippi scholarships are made possible through donations from the Gold Patron Program and from the Miss Mississippi Pageant Scholarship Foundation. This year there will be 42 Miss Mississippi contestants , from towns, colleges and universities throughout the State.
