4AA, Neshoba Democrat, Philadelphia, Miss., January 21, 1987 Gray, Woodward Named ECJC's Most Beautiful, Most Handsome
Mary Ann Gray of Forest was crowned East Central Junior Col– lege's Most Beautiful for 1987 recent– ly in Huff auditorium. Miss Gray, an accounting major at East Central, wore a red taffeta antebellum style gown for the even– ing wear competition~ The 1984 graduate of Forest High School is a sophomore. She is an ac– tive member of the college fashion squad and math club, Mu Alpha Theta. The dean's list scholar is the 20-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Gray of Forest. Chosen as ECJC's Most Hand– some for 1987 was Doug Woodward of Louisville. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Woodward. At East Central, the sophomore is president of Sigma Sigma Mu Tau, vice president of Phi Theta Kappa and secretary of the Student Body Association. Woodward, 19, a pre-medicine ma– jor, is a member of Who's Who Among American Junior College Students and is a president's list scholar. Along with the top winners, four beauties and beaus were selected. Beauties named were freshman Janet Mowdy, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mowdy of Philadelphia; freshman Stephanie Copeland, 19, daughter of Max and Hanni Copeland of Newton ; freshman Shelley Wolverton, 18, daughter of Carolyn Moorman and Kenneth Wolverton of Philadelphia; and sophomore Stacie Therrell, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ther– rell of Philadelphia. The four beaus selected during the pageant were freshman Ken Ed– wards, 20, son of Mr and Mrs. Murkey Amerson of Philadelphia ; freshman Steve Hardy, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Boboy Hardy of Philadelphia; freshman Mike Killen, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Killen of Philadelphia ; and sophomore Chris Collins, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Collins of Union. Sophomore Michelle Murphy of Union was chosen by the other pageant contestants as Miss Con– geniality. Murphy is the 19-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James

Other beauty and beau con– testants named to the top 10 were Susan Haralson, Decatur; Emily Tingle, Decatur; Chiquita Jones, Meridian; Michelle Murphy, Union; Lisa Dearing, Newton; John Thomas, Philadelphia ; David Lott, Lake ; Mark Fulton, Philadelphia; Mike Courtney, Forest ; and Paul Radigan, Union. Judges for the pageant were Kathy Anderson and Jerry Williams of Starkville; Judy Booth of Eupora ; and Zerelda Nelson of Lawrence. Leesa Graham, music instructor at East Central, was the pageant coordinator, while English instruc– tor Ovid Vickers served as master of ceremonicil. Guest entertainers who perform– ed during the pageant intermissions were Gayla Gatewood of Forest and Gary Jolly of Philadelphia. East Central students Michelle Chaney and Wendy Smith also sang for the audience, while the college's president, Dr. Eddie Smith, played some piano selections. The 1987 winners will be featured in the college yearbook.
