ECJC To Present. Annual Musical

past Central Junior College has chosen "Bye Bye Birdie" as its an– nual musical. The show features in its large cast, Scottie Chunn as ''Conrad Birdie", the rock 'n roll singer about_ to leave for the Army. Chunn is the son of Mrs. Margaret Chunn of 'Philadelphia. A graduate of Neshoba Central High School, he is majoring in music and is actively involved in the Collegians and the ECJC Players. ·Cast as the recipient of his "One Last Kiss" is Roxanna Manning, who will be portraying "Kim MacAfee", a typical American teen-age girl who, due to a publicity stunt, wins the honors of Conrad's good-bye kiss before his induction. • Miss Manning, the daughter of Pete and Carolyn Manning of Philadelphia, is a journalism major who is a member of the Tom-Tom staff and the ECJC Players. The lead role of the singer's manager, "Albert Peterson", will be played by Mike Kirkland. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kirkland of Philadelphia, he is an engineering technology major who is a member of the Rare Honor Guard and Phi Theta Kappa. He was listed as an Outstanding Cadet and listed in . \Yho's Who Among American Junior ~olleges. . . · The very demanding role of "Rose", Mr. Peterson's girl Friday, is portrayed by Stacie Therrell. An ECJC freshman, she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Therrell of Philadelphia. She has chosen accoun– ting as her major. She is active in many clubs and activities including tfie Baptist Student Union, the Stu– dent Body Association, the ECJC J• Players, the Collegians, the Jazz Band, and the choir. She was elected to serve as a foot– ball cheerleader and is currently ser– ving as the head basketball cheerleader. Miss Therrell was also elected by the Student Body to serve as a class favorite and homecoming maid. Other . honors include being chosen as a beauty and as the freshman girls dor– mitory chairman . She serves on the Tom-Tom and the Wo-He-Lo, the Col– lege newspaper and yearbook respectively. Lori Harrell has been cast as ''Mae Peterson", Albert's catastrophe rid– den mother. Miss Harrell, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lavell Har– rell of Decatur, is a Liberal Arts ma– jor who is involved in many activities on campus.

She was elected as a footbalt cheerleader and is a member of the Tom-Tom staff. She participated in the Fall Dinner Theatre and plays in– tramural football . Alben Roland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Roland of Morton, will be playing the role of "Hugo Peabody", Kim's jealous boyfriend. Roland, an electrical engineering major, is a member of Phi Theta Kap– pa, Mu Alpha Theta (the h~morary math club), Alpha Alpha Epsilon (the honorary engineering club), the ECJC Band, and the choir. He recently was one of the four students representing ECJC in the Ole Miss Scholar's Bowl, in which East Central received top honors and will be representing Mississippi in the Regional Competition next month in Florida. Two other supporting roles cast are those of "Mr. and Mrs. MacAfee'', Kim's parents. Boyd Germany and Nelda Germany copped these character roles. Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Germany of Jackson, is a music major who is active in the ECJC Players and Collegians. He participated in intramural football, softball, and the Fall Dinner Theatre. He was selected to first chair of the All-State Band. Miss Germany is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Germany of Union. This music ma– jor contributes greatly to the ECJC Players. Cast as "Randolph", is Stan Davis, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Davis of Morton. Serving as president of the ECJC Players, Davis is an accounting major. He is active in the Baptist Stu– dent Union and serves as a BSU Council member. He participated in both the musical and Dinner Theatre at ECJC during his freshman year and the Dinner Theatre production earlier this year. Wendy Smith will depict "Ursula". The daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Eddie M. Smith of Decatur, Miss Smith is a vocal music major. S,he is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the Baptist Stu– dent Union, the ECfC Players, and the EC Marching Band of which she served as rifle captain. She participated in the Dinner Theatre which was presented during the first semester of this year. Toby Pace, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pace of Forest, will be por– traying the role of "the Bartender". Pace serves as vice-president of the ECJC Players and is a member of the Collegians. He also participated in in– tramural competition.

"Mrs. Merkle" will oe play fiy Tammie Covington, tfle daughter of Mrs. Ruth Covington of Philadelphia. A nursing major, Miss Covington participates in the ECJC Players. Annette Hurley will play the flashy "Gloria" whom Mrs. Peterson thinks will make a wonderful daughter-in– law. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralpha Hurley of Union. She is a speech pathology major who was chosen to represent ECJC in Who's Who Among American Junior Colleges. She serves as Student Education Association vice-president, Phi Theta Kappa secretary. Miss Hurley currently serves as the editor of the yearbook and is a member of the fashion squad. "Bye Bye Birdie" will be presented nightly April 9 through April 12 at 7:30 p. m. in the Fine Arts auditorium. Tickets will go on sale March 31. General admission is $4.
