Choctaw Conference and All– District IV . This season William was named Pre– Season All-State by the Clarion-Ledger Jackson Dai– ly newspapers as well as receiving All-District IV honors for the second year in a row. He is still pondering scholarship offers from Jackson State University and Mississippi Valley State University. Michael Grove is a 6'1" 210-pound tackle who has started for 3 seasons for the Tigers. Michael recorded 52 combined tackles this season on defense although slowed somewhat by ankle and shoulder injuries. He receiv– ed honorable mention All– Choctaw Conference honors in 1982 and first team All– District IV defensive honors in 1983. Butch Brooks is a 6'1" 225-pound linebacker and of– fensive lineman who also is a 3-year starter for CHS. Butch led the Tigers in tackles in 1982 with 100 combined stops and finished second in 1983 with 77 combined tackles. Brooks was also an integral part of the offensive line, playing several different positions in his high school career; excelling as a long snapper on punts and extra points. The defensive captain for the Tigers the past 2 seasons, Butch was named I All-Choctaw Conference in I 1982 as well as second team i All-District IV. He has been: : qa,_med to the 1983 All-District
IV Class A team as a center. These seven young men have helped lead the Car– thage Tigers to their first Choctaw Conference Cham– pionship in 1982, also an in– vitation to the East Central Mississippi Bowl last season, in which the Tigers were vic– torious over Noxapater 14 to o. They were very instrumen– tal in helping the Tigers claim the South Sub-District IV championship in 1983. During their thr ee-year career (1981, 19821, 1983) at Carthage High School the Tigers have compiled a 21-win and 9-loss record which includes three dif– ferent championships. The Tigers a lso received · a Number 1 ranking in the state for Class Aschools (ap– proximately 75 members) on October 12, 1982, while spor– ting an unblemished 6-win and 0-loss record. The top ranking was the first of its kind for football at Carthage High School. This season the Tigers were ranked in the top 5 Cla5s A schools in the state for 12consecutiveweeks. The Tigers of Carthage achieved the number 1 spot in the polls on October 11, 1983, for these– cond time in two seasons. The seven Tiger players have been key parts in the Tiger attack for several seasons and will be hard to replace for CHS in 1984. All seven players have played for the past six years at Car– thage for Head Coach Pete Lucovich.

Jeff recorded 50 combined tackles and intercepted 2 passes on defense; while on offense he rushed49 times for 241 yards scoring 2 touchdowns and throwing 3 touchdown passes. He also found time to punt for the Tigers averaging 41.i yards per punt on 11 tries. Jeff was an honorable mention All- Choctaw Conference pick in. 1982 and was named to the All-District IV defensive team in 1983. Jerry Banks is a 5'10" 165-pound fullback who finished second in ruShing yardage and scoring for the Tigers this season. Jerry rushed 57 times for 413 yards and scored 7 touchdowns for the Tigers in 1983. An ex– cellent lead blocker in the Carthage running attack,. Banks was also named to the second team All-District IV offemive team.
