6 Newton Co. students in Who's Who Six Newton area students are among the twelve from East Central Junior College to have been selected among the country's most outstand- ing campus leaders and will be listed in the 1978-79 edition 3f Who's Who in American Junior Colleges. C a m p ~ s nominating commit- tees and editors of the annual directory have selected these students based on their aca- demic achievement. service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and future potential. Newton area students are: Julie Goodwin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Good- win, a liberal arts major from Newton. Julie is head cheer- leader, served as Maid of Honor on the Homecoming Court, and was chosen best actress during her freshman year when she played the role of Liese Von Trapp in the "Sound of Music". She is Vice-President of the ECJC Players, has participated in intramural softball and flag football, and a 1977-78 Var- sity Bat Girl. Rita Gayle Smith, a liberal arts major of Union is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt Smith of Union. Serv- ing as cheerleader she also participates in intramural flag football and softball. She is a member of the Fashion Squad and was chosen a s a sophomore maid on the Homecoming Court. Rita is also the editor of the TOM TOM. Perry Winstead, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Winstead of Union is a Business Administration major. Perry has shown his athletic ability in Varsity ~ a s e b a l l and intra- mural basketball and foot- ball. He was Vice-President of his freshman class, Stu- dent Body Association soph- omore represcntative, Phi Theta Kappa honor societv. and on the President's List.
