EC JC Awards Achievement Scholarships

East Central Junior College has recently awarded Achievement Scholarships for the 1979-89 school year to students in the five county district. Of the 24 scholarships awarded Newton County seniors were presented with six. The tuition scholarship is awarded to the white student and the black student in each high schbol in the district with the highest grade point average who plans to attend East Central Junior College. The recipients must enroll the fall semester immediately following

Newton County are: Gwendolyn Paulette Fielder, daughter of Mr and Mrs . Benjamin Fielder of Hickory, Hickory High School; Monty Lamar Cooper of Decatur, son of M r . and Mrs . Donald L. Cooper of Newton County Academy; Sandra Kay Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grover Cox of Lake and Jesse Carl Wolfe, son of M r . Frank Wolfe of Lake, both of Lake High School Students selected from Newton High School were Tina Tumbling, daughter of Mr and Mr s Bunion Tumbling of, Newton, and Joel Lindsley Nelson, son of G.,, and Mrs. James L. Nelson Jr . of Newton.
