VETERANS DAY PROGRAM HELD East Central Junior College held their third annual Veterans Day Program on November ., 11, 1982, at Warrior field. Guest speaker for the occasion was Lieutenant'General Glenn D. Walker (standing), former Adjutant General of the State of Mississippi and former Commander of the United States Army. Platform . guests inclpded Col. Charlie D. Brackeen (seated behind speaker), CMDR, 631st FA Bge, and Dean of Students at East Central. W.H. Johnson, Vice Commander, American Legion, 5th District, served as Master of Ceremonies. This program was sponsored by American Legion-Newton County Post No. 89, ECJC ROTC, Mississippi National Guard, East Central Junior College, Newton County Public Schools, and Greater Decatur Ch~ber of Commerce. Patriotic music was presented by the ECJC Band and Mix.d Choir. Lt. Gen. Walker, a graduate of Morton High School and Mississippi College who DOW resides OD a farm in Union, impressed upon the approximate five hundred in attendance the importance of this special day. Lt. Gen. Walker said: "Freedom~ did not come CJleiiply. Part of the cost has already been paid by 500,000 Americans who have made the supreme sacrfflce in defense of freedom. Let us, the living, not falter in our task to safeguard this freedom for generations yet unborn. Let us today honor our Veterans by rededicating ourselves to this um~ cause.'ยท' '
