coach Van Chancellor, whose team moved to 11-8. "We needed a confi– dence-builder. Our confidence had hit rock bottom. We hadn't had a good night happen to us since the first basketball game." Everything good happened to Ole Miss foremost the fact that the Re~ls held All-American Rosie Walker to 5 points. She was averag– ing 22.7 points a game. "They did a super job on Rosie," said Gunter, whose team is now 11- 1. "And they beat the fool out of us on the boards. That's where we got killed." Ole Miss had 50 rebounds to Aus– tin's 34. Ole Miss took a 6-0 lead in the opening minutes and quickly ran the margin up to 15-4 by taking advantage of Ladyjack turnovers and hitting outside shots. Stephen F. Austin took a 28-27 lead with 2:21 to go in the first half, but Ole Miss built a 34-30 lead to end the half and never relinquished it. Missy Weisinger made up for Walker's non-performance, finish-

ing with 26 points, but that wasn't enough to overcome Smith's perfor– mance in the second half. Smith almost looked nonchalant as she scored 10 of Ole Miss' first 12 points in the final half. She kept it up the rest of the night, boosting her 7.3 point aver– age considerably. Peggie Gillom, Ole Miss' leading scorer with a 17.3 average, scored 19 points. "I fold myself I had to do it," Smith said. "I knew how terrible I had played in the first half. I had to settle down. I was so fired up the first half that I couldn't hit nothing, I couldn't hit the Pacific Ocean if I wanted to." The Ladyjacks were hampered by fouls - Walker had 3 just sec– onds into the second half - but most of them came too late to matter, anyway, in the final min– utes of the game as the Ladyjacks tried to get the ball. "It is pleasing to set out with a game plan and be able to follow it," said Chancellor. "That is what we have never done at this university."
