SCOTT STUDENTS ON HONOR ROLL AT EAST CENTRAL

A display of freshman stu– dent drawings and designs is currently on exhibition in the lobby of the Fine Arts Building on tl1e East Central Junior College campus, Decatur. The designs exhibited consist of abstract color problems solved by the students. These rational designs do not consist of subjective interpretation of . any type of object matter, but deal purely with the art stu– dent's skill of visually pre– ceiving and applying colors as they actually exist in pigment. The drawings on display represent both lone and value studies of an intricate still– life setup located in the art studio. Drawing students were assigned to sketch the still-life r the purpose of studying

different shapes and the sha– dows that these shapes cast. Also showing are drawings of an old abandoned house on Highway 503, owned by Bill Bailey of Decatur. The drawing students sketched this house from all angles, including the interior, trying to capture the rustic quality that has been embedded by age. "Most of these freshmen art students had never received any formal art instruction prior to entering E.C.J.C., and each has done an exceptionally fine job in the manipulation of the elements of art,'' stated In– structor Bruce Guraedy. The exhibit will be open to the public through Novembel'-L! from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday/ ) through Friday.
