75 students involved in EC production of 'Gypsy'

The orchestra will be under the direction of Band Director Paul Giger, while the chorus will be directed by Choral Director Bob Heritage. Other faculty members working with "GYPSY" include: Rehearsal accompaniment~-Mrs. Marian Thornton; Choreography--Ovid Vickers; Stage set designs-– Bruce Guraedy; Tickets and publicity--R.G. Fick; Hair styles--Mrs. Shirley Williams and the Cosmetology Dept.; Poster and program cover designs--Mrs. Jane Tannehill. Student assistants working backstage are: Pam Stribling of Walnut Grove, Assistant Direc– tor; Pam Nance of Louisville, Costume Mistress; Julie Lathem of Morton, Make-up Chairman; and Bonnie Hatcher of Louisville, Prop Chairman. Members of the ECJC Fashion Squad will serve as ushers during the five performances. "GYPSY" is basically the story of two sisters and their mother, all three of whom strive for success . and fame. June, who later becomes the famous movie star June Havoc, leaves home for stardom. Angry, her mother Rose takes the other daughter Louise away from home to make her a star, which she accomplishes quite by accident. Because they traveled around all over the country, Louise's father called her "Gypsy". Her mother's name was added to that, and Louise . became "Gypsy Rose Louise." During one of her more suc– cessful performances, the announcer mispronounced her name and called her "Gypsy ~e Lee", which stayed with ner the rest of her career. ... .>!' Although she was the First Lady of the Strip Tease, Gypsy Rose Lee remained a lady in everything that she did. She claimed that she never "took it all off" because "that left' nothing to the imagination."
