It was evident even in the pregame warmup that Pearl River had come to play and play they did. The Wildcat defense allowed ECJC only one first down the entire ball gamewhile the offense racked up 15 first downs against the Warrior defense. The f i s t quarter presented 'East Central with their only real scoringopportunityof the ball game. After exchanging the ball several times, Pearl River was on their own 48 yard line when quarterback Gary Blaize tried a pass in the flat that was picked off by ECJC's Finnis Hendrix and returned to the Pearl River seven yard line. But it was not the Warriors night and quar- terback Charles Killens coughedup the ball on the four yard line on a third and goal play and Pearl River #.recovered. WILDCATS then started rolling. They got the ball on their own 36 and eight plans later tailback J. W. Rawls scored from nine yards out. Terry Adkis booted the extra point making the score 7-0 Pearl River with 11:40 remaining in the second quarter. SCOOBA - TheannualEast Mississippi Junior College - East Central Junior College grudge match was renewed last night as the East Mississippi Lions romped to a 34-7 victory. The action was typical of a rivalry of this magnitude. East teamknew they had been in a tough ball game when the final buzzer went off. The Lionsmarched 51yards for their first seven points in the first quarter of play. Aided by 36 yards pass interference call at the ECJC six yard line, the Lions needed only two plays to score with Randy Lassiterdiving three ymds for the TD. Charlie Miller added the extra point. Later in the second stanza Charles Killens of ECJC tried a pass in the flat that was picked off by the Lions' Jim Moore who scampered 34 yards untouched into the end zone. East Mississippi was about to turn the ball over to the East Central but East Central was guilty of roughing the kicker giving the Lions new life. East Mississippiwas quick to take advantage of the miscue as quarterback John Mason hit Mark Seals with a 15 yard scoring strike with nine minutes left in the third period.Nillerkicked the extra point to up the score to 21-0.
