Plans Underway For EC JC Homecoming

The comniittee has been named and extensive work has begun in preparation for the 1980-81 celebra- tion of East Central Junior College's Homecoming on Oct. 18. The committee chaired bv Mrs. Ann Burkes, head librarian at ECJC. has already met and is preparing to make this Homecoming a special event. Dr. Shelby Harris, president of the Alumni Association, has announced that Russell Walton of Meridian will be honored a\ Alumnus of the Year. Walton is a retired staff member of the Vocational Rehabilitation Divi- sion of the Staff Department of Education and a 1935 graduate of Ea\t Central .Junior Ctdlege. Serving as committee chairman are: Dr. Harris. u h o is in charge of the parade: Rayt~iond McMullan. rcqistration: Mrs. Gail Wood. reception: Mrs. Sara Heard. decoration of dining hall; Mrs. Jessie Everett. court and halftime; Joe Clark. c a m p \ decorations: Denver Brackeen. alnmni banquet: and Mrs. Larla Jordan, publicitv. Activities will get underway on Oct. 18 with a luncheon scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in the Gold Room of the Mabry Cafeteria. A reunion will be held at this time for the class of 1936. According to Mrs. Toninlye Alfonso, chairperson, apporuinintely 120 reservations have been made. Also being honored at @is time will be former faculty mernhers froni the 1935-36 class. They are: Mrs. Ethel Burton, k- L.O. Todd. Mrs. -

Cross and Mr. and Mrs. Pat Wilson. The Homecoming parade has been \chedu!ed for 4 p.m. through downtown Decatur. According to parade chairman Shelby Harris. many clubs and organimtions at ~ C J C have'begun making floats in preparation for the Honieconiing parade. Immediately following the parade o reception will be held honoring Walton and his family in the Fine Arts Center. An Alumni Association meeting will he held at 5 p.m. in the Fine Arts auditor inn^. with election of the 1980-91 officers being the main business. The alumni banquet will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Mahry Cafeteria. During that time the Alunlnus of the Year. Walton will be honored. along nith the graduating classes of 1930. 1940. 1950. 1960. 1970 and 1980. Ferving as master of ceremonies will he Denver Brackeen, dean of students at ECJC. Follo\ving the banquet the East Cenral Junior College Warriors will host the Eagles of Hinds Junior College. Pre-game activities mill hegin at 7:00 p.m. at the Warrior St:~diutii when the Hinds Junior College Eagle Marching Band and High-Steppers perform. Kick-off of the football game will be at 7 3 0 p.m. Highlighting halftime activities will be the crowning of the 1980-81 Hnmeconiing Queen and pr??enta--
