Russell Walton will be hon- ored as A l m u s of the Year at the East Central Junior College homecoming festivities on October 18. He wiil receive recognition at various activities throughout the day including a reception at 4:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center and a banquet at 5:30 p.m. in the Mabry Cafeteria. Russell Walton was born on July 28, 1913, to EIisha and Emma Walton in Neshoba County, Mississippi. He graduated frem Dixon High School, attended Pearl River Junior College and later graduated from East Central Junior College in 1935 with an Associate in Arts degree. Fol- lowing graduation from ECJC he enrolled at Missis- sippi College where he re- ceived his Bachelor's degree in education with a mapr in Math a t ~d a minor in Physics m 1937. He then began teach- ing at schoolsthroughoutMis- sissippi. After thirty years of teaching in the Mississippi school system he returned to college at Mississippi State University aqd received his Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Counseling. In addition to teaching he served in the Mississippi Legislature from Leak@ County from 1952 untii 1955 and was employed with the Vocatio~ldRehabilitafi~n Di- vision of the State Depart- ment of Education from 1955 to 1978. He also served as Counselor, Area Supervisor and State Supervisor for the Vocational . Rehabilitation Division. Walton has k e n very ac- tive in professional organiza- tions.
