After winning their region championship, the East Central Community College ladies' bas- ketball team travels to Texas this week to play in the National Junior College Tournament. ECCC faces Central Arizona in the first round Tuesday a t 4 p.m. in the Tyler Junior College gym in Tyler, Texas. The tourna- ment is double-elimination, so ECCC i s guaranteed to play another game Thursday. Lady Warriors coach Sammy Pace said his team is excited to be going to the tournament. "We've been working real hard in the gym, and I'm pleased with that," Pace said. "But the excitement of going needs to go ECCC qualified for the tour- nament by defeating Pearl River in the Region 23 championship b game. Now the Lady Warriors face Central Arizona, which has only 22 losses since 1974. Pace said winning the first game of the 16-teamtournament would be a great start. "It's extremely important to win that first game," he said. "That automatically puts you in the top eight." The Lady Warriors are led by Rena Reed, who averages 18 points per game, and Evelyn Nelson, who scores 15per game. "I don't think the girls are worried abut winning, they have the attitude that they are not going to lose twice," he said.
