DaviCJ Little Named MVP In Jr. College All-Star By-· Elsie May Chambers

David Little, 21-year-0ld, 6'6 1 2" forward for Ea!t Cent– ral Junior College, fulfilled all the expectations of his coaches and of his mother, Mrs. Brenda Lewis , of Lena, and his wife, Chris, whom he married only a few weeks ago, at Lena, Monday night at Holmes Junior College. David was playing in the Junior College All-Star Game, a member of the South Team, and he was playing un– der adverse circumstances. The team assembled at Holmes on Friday at 10 a.m. Forty-five minutes later David sustained a severe ankle sprain while practicing. He was taken off the court and spent the rest ofthe day in an ice whirlpool. On Saturday the ankle was alternated with a heated whirlpool and cold whirlpool, and it seemed to re– spond. He got in a short work– out Saturday afternoon, but Coach Herman Robinson said David was mostly "hopping. " He was able to work out again for a very short time on Sunday and on Monday, but on Monday it appeared very doubtful that he would play in Monday night All-Star game. The game between the North and the South All-Stars started without him. "We need David's rebound– ing.·· Coach Robinson said, and he decided to put him in the game. David ·s performance was almost unbelievable. In the 18 minutes he was on the court, he chaulked up seven block shots, 15 rebounds and made 25 points. The South"' All-Stars won by a score of 112 to 98. At the end of the game it was announced that a com– mittee appointed by Coach Bennie Kimble of Holmes and chai rman of the Junior Col– lege All-Star Game, had cho– sen David Little as the Most Valuable Player. David' - outstanding performance was witnessed by packed gymnasium crowd that included about 100 coaches. from many colleges and universities out side of the state as well as from senior colleges inMississippi.

But his two most avid fans , his mother and his wife, were not there because David had called and told them he would not be able to play on his bum leg. .. David has made tremend– ous progress here at East Central... Coach Robinson said Tuesday. "He was a transfer here from Belhaven, and he has done a great jobfor us. We are very proud of him, and he will get the proper rec– ognition at the All-Sports Ban– ~et on April24... Robinson , who with Coach Ford Turner of Jones Junior College, coached the victori– ous South team, said that David would go on to college on a scholarship and that he would probably sign with a senior college in a few davs

Most Valuable Player David Little of Lena, who is a student at East Central Junior College, was voted the Most Valuable Player on the South All -Star team. He played 18 minutes in the All-Star game at Holmes Junior College, made seven block shots, 15 rebounds, and made 25 points. He is the son of Mrs. Brenda Lewis of Lena.
