Five Newton County Seniors Receive ECJC Football Scholarships

defensive end from Hickory High School, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Mitchell; Kenny Slaughter, a 5'11" 165 pound wide reciever from Union High School, son of Mrs. Azzie Slaughter; and Jerry Steele, a 6'0" 175 pound linebacker from Newton High School, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton R. Steele. In . making the announcement Pouncey stated; "We feel like these athletes can contribute to our program at East Central and give us immediate help."

East Central Junior College's head football coach Ken Pouncey announces that sixteen seniors from the five county district have recently signed football scholarships to play at East Central next year. Seniors included from Newton County are : Bo Chaney, a 6'2" 190 lb. defensive end from Beulah Hubbard High School, son of Mr. and Mr~. Ben Chaney; Jeff Harris, a 6'2" 190 pound offensive tackle and defen– sive end from Decatur High School, son of Mrs. Deloris Bailey; James Mitchell. a 6'0" 220 pound
