Dorothy Mathis Is Chosen For State JC Band

Dorothy Mathis a sophomore at East Central Junior College and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn D. Mathis of Morton, has been selected as a member of the 1977-78 Junior College All.State Band. Tryouts for the All.State Band were held on the Hinds Junior College campus November 22. Out of the seven students competing for bass clarinet positions, three were chosen. Dorothy was selected to be first chair clarinet, a position she has held for two years now. Dorothy will rehearse with the All– state Band at Holmes Junior College from December 16-19. Then on January 24 she will leave for Jackson to rehearse once more before performing with the All.State Band for the Mississippi State Legislature on January 25. Leaving the next day for AUanta, Georgia, the All.State Band ·will present a concert for the Southern Division of the College Band Director's National Association, returning to Mississippi on J4nuary 28. . Having strong :musical interests, at East Central Dorothy is a member of the ECJC Warrior Band, ECJC Concert Choir, and serves as Vice-President of the East Central Chapter of the Music Educators National Conference.
